My Top 26 Hair Products for Healthy Natural Hair

I’m often asked what hair products I use to help me achieve healthy long, natural hair and I will recommend a few and say that there is not one specific product which alone has helped my hair to maintain health and reach the length which it is now. However, when I think back over the years there are definitely some hair products which I know will leave my hair feeling great and I will revisit time and time again. I have listed all of the products which I can honestly say work well on my hair, and I would recommend to others. I have listed as many of my favourites below, but do remember that not all of the products which work for me will work the same for you depending on your texture, density, hair porosity etc. I will also mention that although I have recommended all of the products there are some which I prefer to use more than others. I do like to favour the brands which contain more natural and quality ingredients.

Affiliate link images to all my recommended products (Amazon UK) are shown below. Do be aware that some of these products can be found at cheaper prices e.g. your local hair and beauty shop. All products listed can be brought for under £12 in the UK, so do shop around if the prices on Amazon are higher.

Shampoos:

As I am Curl Clarity Shampoo– This is a great shampoo which gets your hair clean without stripping it of all its natural oils.

Design Essential Almond an Avocado Moisturizing & Detangling  Sulfate-Free Shampoo- This shampoo gently cleanses and provides slip so hair is easily detangled even before conditioning.

Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Extra Moisture Retention Shampoo– A great all round shampoo which I use again and again. It still leaves the hair feeling Moisturized. The Shea Moisture range also use quality organic, natural and fair trade ingredients.

Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Shampoo- One of my favourite branded shampoos. It leaves the hair still feeling hydrated after washing and does not leave the hair feeling stripped of moisture.

Aphogee Curlific  Textured Wash– This is an inexpensive shampoo that leaves hair feeling moisturised and also provides slip. I really like this one.

Creme of Nature Pure Honey Moisturizing Dry Defence Shampoo– Another inexpensive shampoo which leave the hair feeling clean but still moisturised.

Conditioners

Creme of Nature Pure Honey Moisturizing Dry Defense Conditioner- Just like the shampoo in this range it is inexpensive (you can purchase both for around £10). This conditioner provides good slip and leaves the hair feeling moisturised.

Aphogee Culific Texture treatment– The brand Aphogee is well known for their effective protein treatments and I would also recommend Aphogee’s 2-Step Protein Treatment for when your hair is suffering from damage and significant breakage. The Curlific range is just as good and provides more moisture then protein. After using my kinky curls are popping.

Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Hair Masque- My current favourite moisture- based conditioner which is thick and creamy and leaves my hair feeling so soft and moisturised, after using. Not All Shea Moisture conditioners work the same and this is one of only a couple out of all the lines in the brand which really agrees with my kinky natural hair.

Design Essential Almond an Avocado Moisturizing & Detangling  Conditioner- A great lightweight moisturising conditioner which glides onto the hair strands and provides great slip, meaning the hair is so easy to detangle. A little goes a long way with this conditioner.

As I am Hydration Elation Intensive Conditioner– This is my number one conditioner. I have used this one on and off for at least 3 years now and I can guarantee that after using my hair feels totally revitalized. I use this as my protein based deep conditioner and it moisturises and helps to strengthen the hair strands. It is not for weekly use and works great if you use it once a month or so.

Leave- In Conditioners

As I Am Leave-In Conditioner– A leave-in conditioner which provides great slip so makes is so much easier to prepare the hair for styling. it is also lightweight and penetrates the hair strands.

Keracare Natural Textures Leave -in Conditioner- This leave- in conditioner is another trusted favourite of mine and very similar in texture to the As I Am leave- in Conditioner which I mention above. When I wore my hair relaxed I loved the Keracare original line and their Natural Textures line is also very good.

Design Essential Almond and Avocado Moisturizing & Detangling Leave-In Conditioner- An all time trusted favourite of mine. This is  light moisturising leave- in conditioner which also provide great slip which means it cuts down time on the styling process after you complete your wash day routine.

Curlific Moisture Rich Leave-in-  A lightweight leave-in spray on conditioner for easy application. The cost of this leave in is also reasonable. It works best if used with the shampoo and conditioner in the range.

Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Leave-In Conditioner- This leave- in is a little heavier than the previous 4 but just as good. It doesn’t provide quite as much slip but does provide lots of moisture to the hair strands and contains ingredients which aim to strengthen the hair. This is a good option if you are experiencing breakage or have very kinky hair types e.g. 4b and 4c.

Creams: Moisturisers & Curl Definers

Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibicus Curl Enhancing Smoothie-  Acts as a Moisturiser and curl definer. This is one of my favourite cream based moisturiser’s and it provides great shine and moisture for styles such as braid and twist-outs. My Daughter loves the smell of this.

Curlific Curl Definer – This is a great light hold curl definer which provides lots of moisture and works well for braid and twist-outs. it also gives light hold to wash and go’s.

As I Am Double Butter Cream Rich Daily Moisturizer- This moisturizer is so rich and provides great moisture for type 4 hair. As with the entire range this moisturiser also smells divine. It can be used as the cream in the LOC method process.

Keracare Natural Textures Hair Milk– This is a light weight moisturiser which is perfect for those with looser kinks and curs such as type 3 and possibly those with type 4a hair. It does feel similar to their leave in conditioner and is another one of those amazing smelling products for us naturals.

Styling Gels

Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Paste– A great light hold edge control which will work well for those with type 3 and type 4a hair. It does not dry the hair out or leave any white residue. A little on the pricey side but a little can go a long way.

As I am Styling Gel– After giving up using Eco Styler Gel I struggled to find a gel which could keep my hair sleek in a bun. This is my favourite all round styling gel at the moment. what I love about it, is that it still keeps my sleek buns in place but with a lighter hold than Eco Styler and it doesn’t cause flaking.

Unrefined Shea butter– A trusted favourite which works well as a sealant after applying a water- based product. It can be used on its own, although it can be a little difficult to distribute along the hair strands when in its solid form. I find it works best if you mix with a liquid oil such as olive oil and make a whipped Shea butter mix which is easy to apply Create Your Own Organic and Vegan Friendly Body Butter / Natural Hair Sealant.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil- A great inexpensive and widely available moisturising oil which penetrates the hair shaft and seals in moisture.

Organic Virgin Coconut Oil – Acts as a fabulous pre -poo as it helps melt tangles away. It is also a great oil to use all year round to seal in moisture. It is a good idea to use intermittently as you may find that it can make your hair become a little brittle as it helps hair retain protein.

Jojoba Oil- One of my current oils to use as it mimics the natural sebum which we naturally produce from the scalp. It is very lightweight so perfect for using in the Summer Months.

Avocado Oil, Grapeseed Oil and Castor Oil (especially Black Jamaican Castor Oil) are other great oils to try out.
